FAQ
What is telehealth?
Telehealth is a virtual form of receiving psychotherapy. It has been utilized long before the Covid-19 pandemic, as an alternate form of therapy for those who are homebound, have jobs that require them to travel a lot, or cannot get to an office on a regular basis. It is proven to be just as effective as in-person therapy. It is just from the convenience of your own home.
How does telehealth work?
Once you have decided to make an appointment, you will receive an email and a text instructing you to download an app on your phone (free of charge) which you will click on to join our video appointment at the agreed upon time. We will then be face-to-face and start our session. If you prefer, you can also utilize your home phone or FaceTime, which are also HIPAA compliant. Please remember to give yourself a private space for the duration of the call, so you won't be overheard or interrupted.
Is telehealth covered by my insurance?
While each plan is different, most major insurance companies cover telehealth services at the regular rate for mental health counseling services. Please check with your insurance company before making your appointment to be assured that there are no exceptions for your specific plan.
How long are the appointments?
The appointments are typically 45-50 minutes. However, I can accommodate shorter appointments, as needed. If you prefer, I will remind you when we have five minutes left, so that you can begin to transition to closure.
How often are the appointments?
The appointments are typically once per week, but we can also set a schedule more or less often to meet your needs.
What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?
You will be sent a brief questionnaire via email, which will ask questions about your history, present concerns, and goals for therapy. Please think carefully about these questions, as we will be reflecting back on them to create your specific plan of care.
Why do I need to place a credit card on file?
This will make your experience more convenient to have a credit card on file. Your card will only be charged if your insurance company does not pay the full amount of your visit. Your insurance company will tell us what your responsibility is and what you will be charged. In addition, the card will be charged the $75 late cancellation/no-show fee, if ever relevant.
What is your late cancellation/no show policy?
Any appointment that is not cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice or you do not show up to, will be charged a $75 fee. This will be discussed further upon intake.
